Purpose of the Position:
To implement the Participatory Health and Hygiene Education component of the rural and urban Water and Sanitation Programme, so as to reduce morbidity and mortality from diseases; and other conditions and infections e.g. HIV &AIDS.
Major Accountabilities/ Responsibilities:
Plan, implement, monitor and evaluate activities necessary to meet the objectives of the participatory health and hygiene promotion program in the rural and urban Water and sanitation.
To mobilize and sensitise communities in water and sanitation projects.
To collect, analyze, interpret and use Village Based Consultative Inventory Data in the prioritization of operational areas and beneficiaries.
Collect clinical data, analyse interpret, determine disease patterns (sporadicity, epidemicity, endemicity, pandemicity) and institute interventions.
Participate in data collection, its submission for proposal development
Generate (BOQs) Bills of Quantities from assessments for procurement.
Conduct PHHE sessions; trainings of builders, water point user committees, pump mechanics, health workers and community in hygiene and other health related aspects according to project objectives.
Capacity building in the prevention, control and mitigation of communicable and non-communicable diseases and ensure HIV/AIDS and Gender are mainstreamed.
Facilitate multi sector and community involvement and Participationin all aspects of the water and sanitation programme.
Facilitate community beneficiary identification, selection and verification.
Ensure safe custody, accountability and distribution of project materials and assets.
To ensure that Water and Sanitation facilities are constructed as per project, WV and Sphere expected standards.
Design and develop appropriate Information, Education and Communication (IEC) and training materials for participatory hygiene education according to project objectives.
Generate, prepare and compile accurate and timely project reports.
Bacteriological and chemical Water sampling, testing, analysis of results and taking of corrective action.
Appraise, review and evaluate Water and Sanitation projects.
Attend and participate in weekly chapel and daily devotional meetings.
Knowledge and Skills:
A minimum of 5 “O” levels passes including Mathematics, English Language and Science.
At least three (3) years experience in implementing Water and Sanitation projects.
A National Diploma in Environmental Health or A Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Health 0r National Diploma in Community Health, Water and Sanitation, Rural Development or any other relevant discipline.
Sound knowledge of Public Health and epidermiology and skills to prevent, control, mitigate and rehabilitate the affected.
Articulate communication and community mobilisation.
Knowledge and skills on designing, construction, operations and maintenance of water, solid waste and wastewater disposal systems.
Ability to identify community knowledge gaps, attitude, and social trends so as to plan and articulate participatory health and hygiene education.
Ability to design and utilise Information, Education, Communication materials according to Water and Sanitation sphere standards.
Knowledge and skills on water quality monitoring, results analysis and their use.
Knowledge of the Global Positioning and Geographical Information systems.
Knowledge on Environmental impact assessment.
Knowledge on rapid risk assessment.
Knowledge of Humanitarian Aid workers code of conduct.
Knowledge in generation of Bill of Quantities (BOQs) for the project.
Computer literacy is an added advantage.
A clean class four (4) driver’s license.
