Livelihoods Knowledge Management & Capability Manager

Provides expert advise and stewardship to the Livelihoods Sector Communities of Practice coordinators/CoP internal governance team who gather best practice materials, guide program development, support professional development, identify learning opportunities, establish standards, routines, and evaluate programmes. In conjunction with the Global Knowledge Management (GKM) team, establishes knowledge management systems and processes to ensure cross Partnership learning and development and world-class implementation of selected sector interventions or project models.


Set Strategic Priorities:

  • Create, implement, and nurture the sector Knowledge Management (KM) strategy.

  • Develop, nurture, and grow the sector CoPs considering the interests of technical team and GKM CoP requiremements; membership is comprehensive of WV stakeholders and external partners.

  • Ensures all KM and CoP activities are laser-focused on supporting the Partnership and Sector initiatives, objectives, and priorities.

  • Link to other sector CoPs for joint learning and collaboration.

  • Directs the process and scope of technical capability requirements and talent management processes to deliver high quality impactful sector programmes.

Build Capacities:

  • Enables the CoPs to be vehicles for sharing information and best practices, facilitating input into sector technical resources, establishing research priorities, identifying capacity building needs, building an evidence base for WV’s project models and approaches.

  • Develop a culture of collaboration and sharing among the stakeholders; helps to identify emerging practices, best practices, and innovations and shares same across the Partnership; assists the CoP in the identification of Sector/CoP programmatic subject matter experts; puts in place a routine best practice of conducting lessons learned sessions.

  • Promote a vibrant Community of Practice that meets on a regular basis and works together effectively across entities and geographies on issues that are relevant to the Partnership strategy.

  • Enables learning and development activities for the CoP members to reduce the time to competency, increase cost savings and efficiencies, and encourages professional development.

Ensure Accountability:

  • Establish knowledge management systems and processes to ensure cross Partnership learning.

  • Coordinate/lead development of communications materials for internal and external narrative of sector effectiveness and learning.

  • Develop the sector’s information management system (within wvcentral and to provide access to programme and project tools and best practice guidance.

Promote WV Way:

  • Manage information dissemination throughout the CoP, partnership and external audiences, including managing CoP meetings and conference participation.

  • Develop and manage sector Information Newsletters, partnership articles and publications; provides support for the CoPs in the same activities for their programmatic areas.

  • In conjunction with the GKM team, develop requirements and manages all Sector KM/CoP web-based information tools including team websites, taxonomies, digital library, CoP social Networking systems and email listservs. Represent sector on Partnership Working and Advisory groups tasked with global tools development. (wvcentral and, GKM Business Team).

External Engagement:

  • Engage our external peer partners in knowledge sharing and collaboration on our sector strategies.

  • Represent WV among other NGO Knowledge Management Specialists to build collaborative relationships, keep abreast of trends, and promote WV’s better practices in its KM work.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Member of the Global Sector Senior Leadership team.

  • Member of the GKM KM/CoP advisory committee.

  • Carry out additional responsibilities and projects as assigned, including administrative and planning functions.

  • Attend and participate in weekly chapel services and daily devotional meetings.

Knowledge Management Specialist

The purpose of this role is twofold. The main purpose of the role is to maximize the potential of advocacy practitioners to bring change for children, through ensuring the right knowledge is available when needed in World Vision’s advocacy, campaign, cross-sector partnering and external engagement work. This entails comprehensive gathering of information from our global Advocacy & External Engagement (A&EE) teams as well as promoting this information to encourage learning. The role will operationalise systems that capture and aggregate data from multiple sources, prove the contribution to change and identify paths and products to increase knowledge of effective advocacy and external engagement models. The Knowledge Management (KM) Specialist is also responsible for supporting a global network of practice for A&EE, promoting a culture of excellence in this network and support the members to develop the skills and capacities to achieve enhanced performance.

Allied to this is the collection, collation and analysis of data to demonstrate the contribution of A&EE to the World Vision Partnership’s overarching strategic goal. The role will provide dedicated support to the Advocacy Strategic Measures (ASM) process which provides significant insights into the progress of the A&EE goals, and is a rich source of information for application in a range of internal communications and knowledge management processes. The Knowledge Management Specialist will also provide primary knowledge management support to the External Engagement Advisory Group.


Contribute to the development of a culture of learning and improvement within the advocacy and external engagement community for adoption, replication and scale up of internal and external best practices in relation to advocacy and external engagement:

  • Strengthen A&EE and the broader advocacy and external engagement community of practitioners to promote replication and learning.

  • Develop capacity building tools and resources.

  • Ensure adequate access to capacity building material and tools Partnership-wide through adequate communication.

  • Support documentation of best practices, achievements and innovative tactics and methodologies in an accessible and easily understandable way for replication and scale up.

  • Support regular review, analysis and reporting on A&EE activity, outcomes and impact drawing on Advocacy Strategic Measures and external engagement and campaign metrics.

  • Package relevant information into different reporting products to ensure an adequate and regular information flow to key internal and external stakeholders.

  • Support knowledge management functions for the External Engagement Advisory Group.

  • Develop capacity building tools and material from best practices and innovative external engagement approaches.

  • Ensure effective access to guidance, tools and resources via a new External Engagement page on WV Central.

  • Manage the external engagement knowledge repository system (internal website) to ensure that it is always up to date and its structure is adapted to evolving needs.

  • Manage the day to day technical operation of the External Engagement Community of Practice.

Manage the data gathering, collation, analysis and reporting of the Advocacy Strategic Measures process, which shows the contribution of advocacy and external engagement to the Partnership’s overarching goal:

  • Manage all logistical and technical aspects of ASM reporting cycle.

  • Contribute results to the WVI Board report.

  • Produce narrative reports for senior global and regional leadership.

  • Provide analysis with conclusions and recommendations prepared for advocacy leadership.

  • Utilise ASM data/content related to key A&EE objectives (e.g., Global campaign) for internal communications and knowledge management purposes.


  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant area - development. international relations, social sciences, communications, Knowledge Management, Child Protection.

  • Capacity to manage an important amount of information, summarize it and package it for communication with different groups of stakeholders.

  • Strategic, creative, pragmatic and innovative thinking.

  • Min 3 years’ experience in relevant field (campaigning, advocacy and/or communications).

  • A successful track record in coordinating / managing and communicating information in a large and complex environment.

  • Strong project management experience with excellent analysis, writing, documenting & editing skills including high competency in Microsoft Excel.

  • Experience of working in a complex, international and cross-cultural environment.

  • Ability / experience influencing people to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.

  • Effective in written and verbal communication in English.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Master Degree in International relations, Development, Communications, Child protection or similar.

  • Spanish and/or French would be an asset.

  • Experience of working in advocacy, external engagement and large scale public campaigns.

  • Practical advocacy and campaigning experience in different national contexts, particularly in developing country contexts.

  • Good knowledge on monitoring and evaluation (M&E).

  • Experience in producing curriculum, case studies, analysis and substantial reports

  • Experience mobilizing supporters and influencing key decision makers on development issues.

  • Field/ national office experience, along with understanding of the organization to allow for efficient and timely coordination of information and stakeholders.

Finalité de la position:

Provide support to Mali Integrated WASH program for planning and monitoring of interventions, data collection & management and impact reporting as well as learning process and knowledge management. In collaboration with the Horizon GIS and database specialist, he will ensure data collection for regular monitoring and for evaluation, data analysis and uploading into Horizon GIS.

Responsabilités Majeures:

  1. Ensure, in collaboration with programs effectiveness Department that all assessments, baseline measurements, and evaluation exercises related to WASH are done properly for quality assurance

  2. Ensure regular monitoring of activities, outputs and outcomes related to the WASH program, using smartphones when necessary, and report appropriately to facilitate decision making around WASH project implementation

  3. Support WASH Manager and projects coordinators in writing and reviewing and improving quality and timely monthly, quarterly, bi–annual and annual project narrative WASH reports due to various donors

  4. In collaboration with the communications department and project managers, ensure that success and impact stories related to WASH interventions are collected and reported adequately

  5. Coordinate learning and knowledge management processes and ensure lessons learned are well documented and shared inside of World Vision, ensuring the promotion of innovative approaches in WASH interventions

  6. Support WASH Manager in Ensuring that audit recommendations are timely responded to, fully implemented and progress is reported quarterly

  7. Perform others duties as required and asked by the manager or any of leadership team

  • Educational level required: Diploma (at least BAC + 4) in statistics, communication, M&E, Water, Sanitation or any related field

  • Experience: 3 years in collect, analyze, compile and report data.
